Family

I am listening (and watching), Mommy.

Andi said it again this morning… “Go na, starbucks!” (I tweeted about it last night, when she said it the first time as I was preparing her to go to bed.)

I asked her, “Who are you going with sweetheart?”

She answered quickly, “Ate Janina!” ( Janina is the daughter of my friend Jenn. She’s Andi’s favorite Ate.)

The other day, she got the bag of pandesal from the food tray and she let it sit on the floor. Then she said,” Okay, 2minutes! “

Dar one of her ninangs, was watching with her one of her favorite shows in the portable DVD player. Dar told me that as she was adjusting something in the player, Andi got the rod and said, “Ninang Dar, No touch!”

Yesterday afternoon, Andi and I went to my friend Danica’s house. Andi is close to Mic (my godson), who was born the same month as Andi. They usually play and Danica and I get to talk and have merienda. Anyway, Mic has a rabbit that he got from a party. Andi loves animals, but she doesn’t have any at home.

As I went to the area where she was playing and where the rabbit was, her yaya Jean was laughing and she told me that Andi was commanding the rabbit, “Come, rabbit! Obey! “

Andi was calling me one time, and she was shouting, “Mommy! Mommy! ” I answered back, “No shouting, Andi.” Just like whining,…shouting is not acceptable in our home. So she stopped and obeyed.

And then, I needed JA to do something for me. He was working in the other room. So I said in a loud voice, “Love! Love!”  Immediately, Andi shouted too, “Love! Love!” Uh-oh. So much for being a credible mom. I instantly got convicted and told my daughter and hugged her, “I am sorry for shouting sweetheart. Mommy will not shout again.”  I knew she forgave me and gave me another chance.

I am amazed how quickly she picks up almost if not all that she hears. And she copies not just what I say, but what I do. Being a parent makes me a better person. I am more careful now with what I say, or what example I am giving, because someone is always listening and watching.

It is a good reminder for me, because the truth is, Someone always sees not just what I do or say, but what is also in my heart.

  1. Andi’s so cute! I haven’t met her yet, though :( Nice blog, Ate Anna. Even if I’m not a Mom yet, it was a nice reminder to be careful. Hope to see you soon! :)
