Thoughts while Ironing Clothes

Today I have resolved to do and change a few things. Some random thoughts came to mind while I was ironing clothes today. I have been out most of the week (for meetings, playgroup, small group, spend time with friends etc.), thus, a lot of workload at home piled up. I usually bring along our all around household help when Andi and I go out, so that she can watch Andi (who is a toddler) while I do what I need to do. Today, I needed to start packing for our Bohol trip next week, because the weekends are usually full since JA doesn’t have work and we do errands together and have family time at those days of the week. Anyway, when I was going through what we need to bring, I saw that there were a lot of laundry that were not yet done and a lot of clothes too that needed to be ironed. So I divided the work load that Jean (our help) and I have to finish by the end of the day. She insisted that she does it all, but realistically that wasn’t possible. I usually look after Andi when we are at home and she does the laundry, cleaning and the basic cooking.

Anyway, here are some of the thoughts that popped into my head and some lessons that I have learned while I did my household chores for the day. (Okay, just so you will know, I love cooking and taking care of my child and looking after the needs of my husband and child. Doing the laundry and ironing though, are one of my least favorite chores. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?)

1. No one can love and take care of my family and my home more than I do, because it is MY family and MY home. As I was ironing, I saw some of JA’s shirts that had loose or missing buttons and some that needs some minor sewing. I appreciate my help, and she is good at what she does. I just think that only a wife and mom goes the extra mile for her husband and child. I was thinking at first, how can she miss this out? I guess it is because I am the only one who really has the eye to see it.

2. Excellence is not about having the best things, but being the best with whatever you have. As I was fixing our clothes I was thinking that I really does not matter whether we have the most expensive, signature clothes or not. If they are dirty, smelly, crinkled and not maintained, they really do not value much. Excellence can be achieved and can be started with whatever you have in your hands. And this applies in every area of life.

3.I cannot build a home if I am not at home. I need to be home to be on top of things. Our helper is there primarily to help, not to be in charge. Remember the top three priorities I have mentioned in my previous blog Night and Day? Well, the fourth one is my home. I need to make sure that my home is in tip top shape before I engage in activities outside. Besides, our home is where I stay and the people I love the most reside. Therefore, it should really be prioritized. So resolved, I will stay home more often. (Will discuss this further when I write on The Wise Woman Builds her Home)

4. I cannot love what I do not spend time on. On the other hand, I learn to love that which I spend most time on. I have always wanted to be a woman who loves and prioritizes her family and home. Therefore, I need to learn and relearn again and again (redundancy was intentional) how to manage my time well and allot what is meant to take care of my home.

So there you go, my random thoughts and lessons learned for the day. I love how we never really run out of things you can learn from. And if we choose to, we can get better and better each day.

Anyway, I got to go. Andi is asking for cheese, and I have some shirts to sew!

What an interestingly tiring and productive day, whew!

  6. lol many of the feedback people put up are a little out there, in many instances i contemplate if they in truth read the writing and content before leaving your 2 cents or if perhaps they simply just read over the subject of the blog post and prepare the very first thought that pops into their heads. anyways, it really is nice to read through smart commentary once in a while instead of the same exact, old post vomit which i mainly discover on the internet
