While I was singing and worshiping God yesterday during church service, I don’t know why but I kept on thinking about the parable of the prodigal son. And this is why I am writing about this today.
I was thinking about the prodigal son, and when was the turning point in his life when he decided to go back to his father.
Luke 15:14-17,20 After he had SPENT EVERYTHING, there was a SEVERE FAMINE in that whole country, and he began to be in NEED. So he hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his empty stomach with the PODS OF THE PIGS were eating, but NO ONE GAVE HIM ANYTHING. When HE CAME TO HIS SENSES, he said, “How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here am I starving to death!
…So HE GOT UP and WENT (back) TO HIS FATHER.
The prodigal son came to his senses when he had spent everything and was left with nothing, and when he was with the pigs and probably eating pig food.
This is what I want to derive at. I believe that often having nothing and “eating with the pigs” can be the best thing that can ever happen to us. Our lowest and most pitiful state can actually be the time of our greatest blessing.
My point is, it is when we have nothing that we come to our senses and realize our need to go back to our Father.
When I think about my life and its turning point. I wasn’t in a state of dire need based on worldly standards. But in the midst of thinking I had my life figured out and I got it all together, I was empty and miserable. And my life did not have any meaning. Even when I thought I had what I needed, I had nothing, and I was nothing. And I remember a still small voice in me that lovingly said, “You need to come back home.” And I did.
And that was the best decision I have ever made. I realized my need for a Savior, and I embraced my new life with Jesus and enjoyed my relationship with my Heavenly Father. Life as I knew it was never the same. I was never the same. I was given a new life with Christ.
I am always at loss for words to describe how awesome experiencing the love of God everyday is and how my life now is filled with purpose and meaning. The experience of “nothingness” was my starting point.
Are you at the worst time of your life?
Have you lost everything?
Are you eating with the pigs?
If you are, you are also at the greatest turning point of your life. You are exactly where God wants you to be. You, soon enough (I hope) will come to your senses and realize your need to go back to your Father.
I have left and gone astray too.
Take it from me, there is nothing like being back home.
[Besides if you read further (Luke 15:20-24), you'll see that your Father was waiting for you all along.]
Great blog love! I couldn’t have said it better. And great revelation too. There are so many insights one could get from this parable, but only God sends a new revelation. You really hear from Him and so timely :)
