Give a group of girls of gowns and shoes and Mom’s costume jewelry, and they are captured for hours playing “princess and “movie star” and generally being beautiful.
For her question is very different from that of her brothers. Every little girl wants to know: Am I lovely?
…Why are flowers a big deal for women?… Have you ever wondered why? Because of what it says. I‘m thinking of you…I delight in you. All those years, when she’s dressing up and doing shows for you and playing princess and trying to look beautiful and shedding tears over the fact that she might not be, she is trying to capture your attention.
She wants to know: Am I lovely? That’s the question every girl is asking. And she looks to her dad to answer it. (From the book: You Have What it Takes by John Eldredge)
As most of you know, I have a daughter who is almost two years old.
On a normal day at home she would go to me and say, “Mommy, want pretty dress.”
She loves dressing up. She cries whenever she does not like the clothes she’s wearing. She loves trying on my shoes. She asks me if she can put on my make up. When I put on cologne or lotion, she wants to do the same too. She enters a store full of clothes and shoes and she would excitingly say, ” Wow, nice!” And she would go straight to the pretty dresses and go through them with so much delight. Girls will be girls!
But this is probably one of the things that she loves doing the most whenever she dresses up. She loves showing her pretty dress or whatever wardrobe she is wearing to her daddy! After I put on her clothes which she now usually chooses for herself, she would tell me, “Show daddy!” And she would run to her dad and would turn around as if parading and modeling what she is wearing. JA would instantly say, “Wow pretty! You are so pretty Andi.” And that is all she wanted and needed to hear.
Here is a video of Andi doing just that! :-)
Andi is so adorable! ^_^ Thanks for sharing this, Anna!
