Mommy, I want JellyAce.

Mommy, I want ice cream.

Mommy, I want milk.

Mommy, I want to play.

Mommy, I want to watch Enchanted.

With Andi, the list of “I wants” is endless.

It was the first time however that I heard her mention the word “need” in a conversation with me. This was how our conversation went:

Andi: Mommy I want the shower… (pertaining to the shower head. She loves playing with it especially whenever she imagines it to be rain)

Me: Later Andi. Mommy is using it. Play with the water in the pail.

Andi: Mommy I want the shower, please?

Me: Sweetheart, please wait. Mommy is using it. I will give it to you after.

Andi: (Maybe after a few more tries) Exasperated, she sighs and looks at me. Mommy, I NEED the shower!

I ended up laughing and I looked at her amazed and amused at the same time. Of course she doesn’t need the shower! But she was so conviced that she did. And she was so convinced that she needed to convince me that she did.

This just led me to think: How often do I state a need when in reality is it actually not one? Maybe it was/is something that I simply wanted or want. How often do I pray trying to convince God that this particular thing is something I need for my life, my future, for my happiness (when in fact in my limited wisdom, these can actually do me more harm than good)?

Thank God for His infinite wisdom. He knows what we need. And because He is a loving Heavenly Father, that is exactly what He gives us.
